MILLBROOK--Snow is a fact of life in the Hudson Valley. While it can make our roads tough to travel, the blanket of snow that is covering our region is actually good for the environment. On Friday, January 28 at 7 p.m. the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook will be hosting a talk by ecologist Dr. Peter Groffman. He will discuss how snow not only helps plants survive the winter, but protects our freshwater resources.
Dr. Groffman will also explore how climate warming and loss of snow cover can lead to a cascade of negative impacts on soil health, trees survivorship, and the quantity and quality of freshwater.
Free and open to the public, the event will be held in the Cary Institute's auditorium, located at 2801 Sharon Turnpike (Route 44) in Millbrook. For more information, call (845) 677-7600 x 121 or e-mail freemanp@caryinstitute.org.
